  5. Racontex  now  runs  under  WINDOWS, using a single screen for user dialog.  It 
  6. also still runs under DOS.

  8. Racontex 3.23 differs from 3.1 in only a few ways.  A few  bugs have been fixed
  9. and  the display  routine has  been altered  so that  pressing =>  at  the last
  10. occurrence of  a search criterion no  longer returns  you automatically  to the
  11. "search criterion" screen, you have to press ESC to get back.

  13. Association of Shareware Professionals  documentation  has  been  added to this
  14. release, but apart  from  minor  changes to the Registration Reminder Screen to
  15. comply  with  ASP  requirements there has been no chnage in function to what is
  16. now a very stable program.

  18. DOS 4.01 is not fully compatible with earlier versions of DOS and many programs 
  19. have had to be revised to  work  with it.  Racontex is one of them, and version 
  20. 3.23 will work with DOS 4.01, 5.0 and 6.0 as well as with previous versions.

  22. The program may now be navigated using a mouse, as well as the keyboard.

  24. The main  addition is WordPerfect 5.1 support in the  search program.  When the
  25. [P] option  is  used to  write  to a  WordPerfect file,  version  3.1 wrote  in
  26. WordPerfect  4.2   format,  which  WordPerfect  5.0   automatically  converted.
  27. WordPerfect 5.1 does not, but it will read WordPerfect 5.0 files.  Racontex now
  28. writes as a  default in WordPerfect 5.0  format.  If you  only have WordPerfect
  29. version 4.2 you may still obtain files it can read by putting  the option /WP42
  30. on the command line when starting RACONTEX.

  32. Virtually all of the  major  word  processors  will  read WordPerfect 5.0 files
  33. successfully, including MicroSoft Word for Windows.

  35. Since Racontex  appends  to  a  file  if you  give it  the name of  an existing
  36. file, it now checks the file type  and if the file is written in WP  5.0 or 5.1
  37. it writes in  that format, even if the /WP42 option is  set.  If the file is in
  38. WP 4.2 format it writes in that format even if /WP42 is not set.

  40. Printer and File export has been expanded  so that  all pages of a document, or
  41. all  pages  matching  the  search criteria may be exported (previously only the
  42. currently displayed page could be exported for each key press).

  44. To aid  in  protecting  proprietary  information published in Racontex form, an
  45. option  has  been  added  which makes a database "non-portable" (illicit copies 
  46. won't work) and limits file export to the current page.

  48. The  REGISTER program makes possible registration by the use of a "registration
  49. number" which may be given by telephone or other means, principally intended to
  50. allow  the  author  to  correct  misspellings  on  the  identification  line of 
  51. registered copies.

  53. The  LOAD  routine  now  operates  on  larger files (or breaks them into larger
  54. pieces) which speeds up the load by 30% or so.
  55.  
  56. The limit on document size has been raised from 8,000 pages to 16,000 pages.

  58. If RACONTEX is invoked  without a filename on the command line, it now presents
  59. a menu of files it finds in the current subdirectory, and these may be selected
  60. mouse or arrow keys.

  62. A new module RCNTXWIN.EXE is now included,  which is  a  windows  program.   It 
  63. looks after all of the user dialogue,  and runs the the other programs for you.
  64. PIF files and an icon for RACONTEX are included.    You start it by the command
  65. WIN  RCNTXWIN from the subdirectory in which you keep your RACONTEX files.

  67. The delay in the "Commercial" screen for unregistered users has been reduced to
  68. 3 seconds.
  69.  
  70. The INSTALL  procedure  now  sets  up  on-line documentation, to be read within 
  71. RACONTEX, as a RACONTEX database.
